Getting a recall notification in the mail can be a stressful experience. At My Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, many of our families drive the vehicles that we sell and service. Having fielded many questions from friends and family regarding the recalls affecting our vehicles, we thought it would be a good idea to share the answers with you, our customers.

FAQ:
1) What's a recall and when is it necessary?
2) What does this mean to me?
3) How will I know if there is a recall?
4) What do I do if my car is recalled?
5) A recall was issued but I already paid to have the part fixed or replaced?
6) I've recently moved, but I think my car has a recall, what should I do?

Q: What's a recall and when is it necessary?
A: A recall is a notification from the manufacturer of your vehicle that a piece of equipment on a car may create an unreasonable safety risk. In the case of a recall, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) will repair, or replace the affected equipment at no charge to you. FCA issues recalls immediately when they believe a risk has been detected.

Q: What does this mean to me?
A: When you receive a recall notice it means that the vehicle registered to you has been identified in a recall. You should proceed at your earliest convenience to the Dealership of your choice to have the repair performed. Recalls are a part of the agreement between you and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles at the time of purchase, as such only an FCA Dealership is authorized to perform the work.

Q:How will I know if there is a recall?
A: If you have registered your vehicle, FCA will notify you of any recalls by sending you a letter in the mail. When you purchase a new vehicle with us, it is registered in California automatically at the time of sale (except in very rare circumstances). When you purchase a pre-owned vehicle, all recalls will have been performed by the Dealership prior to sale. In addition, the pre-owned vehicle will be registered in your name as part of the sale process. You can check to see if your car has a recall anytime from the comfort of your own home here. All you need is your VIN number.

Q: What do I do if my car is recalled?
A: When you receive a notification, follow any interim safety guidance provided by FCA and contact your local Dealership. Whether you receive a recall notification or are subject to a safety improvement campaign, it is very important that you visit your dealer to have the vehicle serviced. The Dealership will fix the recalled part or portion of your car free of charge.

Q: A recall was issued but I already paid to have the part fixed or replaced. What recourse is there?
A: Once a recall has been issued, you are entitled to have the appropriate repair performed. If you have already had the issue taken care of yourself, you may be entitled to reimbursement by FCA. These situations are handled on a case by case basis and you should see a member of our Service Department to find out what to do next.

Q: I recently moved, but I think my car has a recall, what should I do?
A: A: If you believe your car has an open recall notice but you haven't received notification, you have several options. The simplest and most effective option is to contact the Dealerships Service Department and as a Service Advisor to check your VIN. The next option would be to visit one of the NHTSA's recall websites and check our VIN there.

You can find out if your vehicle has a recall on it from the comfort of your own home in two simple steps:
STEP 1: Write down your car's VIN number
STEP 2: Go here and enter your VIN
